The best way to see the nine personality types clearly is to study many examples of individuals of a single Enneagram type--with the proviso that these have been typed with a high degree of accuracy. For if judgements are not sufficiently accurate, students of the typology will become confused and will not be able to progress from having concepts and opinions about the types to seeing the types directly. For the more examples of correctly typed individuals one observes, the more one will be convinced that the nine types are objectively real (despite being hard to prove). "Typed with a high degree of accuracy" means here, not error-free, but judgements based on fifty years of experience of psychologist Dr. Bill Gamard, Ph.D. who was the first American to be taught the typology by the late Chilean psychiatrist, Claudio Naranjo (starting in June 1971). Dr. Naranjo (died, 2019) had learned the typology from a Bolivian mystic named Oscar Ichazo a year before as a member of a group of mostly Americans who went with him to Arica, Chile in order to study with Ichazo (died, 2020). Naranjo developed the first detailed descriptions of the nine types that became the basis of descriptions up to the present time. A "high degree of accuracy" also means here that the selections into nine categories of the video interviews, with links on this website, are not based on Dr. Gamard's judgements alone, but are those confirmed by his wife, Sher Phillips Gamard, who also has fifty years of experience (a student of Dr. Naranjo's starting in September 1971).
